Riverfest 2008

Drayton Riverfest
July 16-19, 2009

Ox Cart had plenty going on this Riverfest, starting with Thursday’s writing seminar given by Lauraine Snelling.  25 people attended the workshop and the delicious lunch served by Society members. Riverfest 2009

Our third annual Supper at the Soddy drew large crowds this year.  Drawn in by costumed servers in a pioneer-style setting, diners’ old-fashioned metal plates were filled with a hot meal served from an open fire.  The menu featured beef stew, cornmeal bread, biscuits, apple crisp and homemade ice cream.  Visitors were also able to stroll the museum grounds to explore the soddy, log house, museum, ox cart, beautiful flowers, and other artifacts on display.Riverfest 2009

But arguably the biggest event Riverfest weekend was the Society’s Bound for Blessing stage production.  Based on Lauraine Snelling’s Red River of the North novels, the homespun play came off as anything but.  Many, many compliments were received from the nearly 1300 people who bought tickets for the four productions, filling the gym time after time.   Probably the biggest project Ox Cart has ever undertaken, the play was a resounding success artistically and financially.Riverfest 2009

We also had an entry in Saturday’s parade featuring Bound for Blessing characters pulled in one of the play props—Herb Stegman’s horse-drawn carriage. Riverfest 2009
