The Ox Cart is Rolling

The Ox Cart is Rolling!
April 2003 Issue

The Ox Cart Trails Historical Society Riverfest committee met on Wednesday, April 18 to finalize the plans for the pageant. Saralee Hoselton has written a wonderful story! Rehearsals will be starting soon. Get your dancing shoes out and warm up your voice so you can join in the fun! If you are interested in helping with the pageant, contact Marlys Boll at 701-454-6103. Many helping hands will be
needed!

Several members are working on a quilt to be raffled off during Riverfest. We are looking for ‘original’ photos of Drayton, which will be scanned and used in the quilt. If you are the owners of any of these photos, please drop them off with Rob Boll at the Drayton Bank or with Jean Anderson. We will scan the photos and return them to you. We are interested in photos of the train depot, Drayton Park dance pavilion, Drayton Hospital about 1920, Drayton School in the 30’s, City Hall when first built, the old skating rink and any other interesting photo you might have! We will eventually have many of the scanned photos on our web site: www.oxcarttrails.net

Ox Cart Trails will have an article in the paper every month. We want to keep you informed about our growing membership (98 members) and our many activities. We have also received several donations and memorials. They will be listed in a future article. Our goal for the next three months is raising money to complete the
refurbishing of the Eagle Point Baptist Church. It will be used as our museum and we want to be able to have it open during the Riverfest Reunion to display our collection of interesting photos, histories, and memorabilia from the Drayton area. Special money-making projects which have been completed are:

  1. Ox Cart Trails Historical Society served the concessions at the boys’
basketball game on Thursday, February 13, 2003.
  2. Ox Cart Trails Historical Society served the curling bonspiel on Friday
evening and all day Saturday, February 14 and 15, 2003. We served barbecues
and wild rice soup Friday evening; pancakes and sausage for breakfast Saturday
morning; barbecues and vegetable soup on Saturday. It was a long day but
interesting watching the games as we served the players and their/our guests.
  3. Ox Cart Trails Historical Society served a Baked Potato Benefit Sunday,
    March 02, 2003 from 11:00 to 1:30. It was a very successful day –
thanks to those members who went the extra mile.

Future projects are concessions at the Fleckten sale in East Grand Forks on May 10, 11 and several workdays at the museum (dates and times will be in the paper next month). Let’s keep the Ox Cart rolling!
