The Ox Cart is Rolling!

Ox Cart Trails Historical Society has received grants to work on Blessing Square in Drayton, North Dakota.  These projects are to be completed April 2009. The Blessing Square, located at 201 Almeron Avenue, include the museum, sod house and log house at present.

One of the projects included finishing the log home that was added to the square.  The foundation was dug, logs replaced on the bottom rows and restoration of the roof.  This project will continue with the addition of the windows, a door and restoring the inside, complete with furnishings from the late 1800’s.  Many in-kind hours of OCTHS members and the community have been devoted to this project.

Riverfest 2008, including an enactment of a pioneer-times meal served by students and adults from the community, was enjoyed by about 200 guests.  The public was able to enjoy a meal which included beef stew, biscuits and corn muffins, apple crisp and homemade ice cream.  The costumes of the servers included bonnets and aprons for the gals and vests for the guys.  Guests could also visit the museum, sod house and see the progress of the log house.  Special thanks to those who helped prepare, serve and clean up after the meal. Although the rainy weather chased us indoors, the meal was a success complete with entertainment from The Happy Hollow Boys.

The grant received from North Dakota State Historical Society and the North Dakota Legislature is to work on the log house and signage.  Grant money was also received from North Dakota Community Foundation, Drayton Area Community Foundation and Drayton Curling Club to help with these extensive projects.
