The Ox Cart
is Rolling!
May 2003 Issue
Ox Cart Trails Historical Society held its quarterly meeting Tuesday,
29 April 2003 at H G Johnson Memorial Hall. Committee meetings were held
at 6:00 pm with a chili meal served to the members. The Treasurer’s
report was presented with a balance on hand 4-29-03 of $711.52.
The Memorial Fund has received donations in memory of Clarence Peterson
and Frances Barry. General donations were received from Eugene & Jean
Anderson, Marjorie Tully, Jessica Judkins for Vandell Anderson, Originals
Casual Wear, and Ken & Cheryl Watse. Jean Anderson conveyed greetings
from member Vandell Anderson, who is quite ill.
Tickets for the quilt to be raffled off during Riverfest will sell for
one for $5 or three for $10. They will be sold before and during that
event with the drawing held after the last pageant performance on Sunday,
July 20th. If you are interested in helping with the quilt, call Marlys
Boll or Marcy Johnson. Scenes of the Drayton area have been printed and
are on the front of this quilt. These pictures are quite impressive. Plans
are to work on this project in the evenings soon, so lend us your helping
hands.
Workdays at the museum will be all the Wednesdays in June
(4th, 11th, 18th, 25th) starting at 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Bring your ladders,
pails, rags and lot of energy! Call Marlys Boll, Marcy Johnson or Earlene
Lasch should you have any questions concerning this project.
Lauraine Snelling’s books will be available for purchase soon. Her
seminar is July 18, 10:00 am with luncheon; and the presentation is that
evening at 7:00 pm at the H G Johnson Memorial Hall. The City of Drayton’s
125th Anniversary ceremony will include the Army Band, flyover by the Happy
Hooligans, American Legion and guest speakers. This will take place on Saturday
evening during the meal on Main Street.
Beverly Jenson will work with David Kjelland on the web site. Plans are
to add another page to the web page for genealogy or family history research
with local history books currently available, their cost and who to contact
to purchase. Watch for this new addition in the future at http://www.oxcarttrails.net/.
The Berniece Fleckten auction is on Saturday and Sunday – 10th and
11th of May held in the VFW Memorial Arena, East Grand Forks, Minnesota.
The OCTHS will be serving the lunch for this auction. Berniece was a charter
member of the Society.
Marlys Boll is a board member of the newly formed Red River Regional Council
for Historical Societies. Hopefully this will give us some opportunities
of historical assistance and grants.
We are looking for interesting photos of Drayton, which will be scanned,
enlarged and displayed during the reunion. If you are the owners of any
of these photos, please drop them off with Rob Boll at the Drayton Bank
or with Jean Anderson. The photos will be scanned and returned to you. We
will eventually have many of the scanned photos on our web site: http://www.oxcarttrails.net/
Come and help us keep the Ox Cart rolling! Our goal for the next two months
is raising money to complete the refurbishing of the Eagle Point Baptist
Church. It will be used as our museum, and we want to be able to have it
open during the Riverfest Reunion to display our collection of interesting
photos, histories, and memorabilia from the Drayton area.
